CCIA is a statewide organization dedicated to promoting Colorado's cleantech industry. CCIA is the only industry-led, industry-focused cleantech group in the state. Its mission is to provide advocacy, public policy leadership, development and education in the growing cleantech sector.
“Colorado’s strength is in the ecosystem we have created around entrepreneurial innovation, capital infrastructure and our research institutions,” said John Metzger, the agency’s founder and CEO. “CCIA is at the center of this hub and we’re excited to use our experience in building credibility for emerging technologies to help them integrate resources, promote new technologies, and attract talent and investment to Colorado’s cleantech community.”
“Cleantech in Colorado is an established and growing part of the state’s economy, and has continued to add jobs despite the recession,” said Marie Rotter, Metzger’s social media practice director. Rotter, who previously launched social media strategies for Xcel Energy, pointed out that Colorado is among the top three states in cleantech venture capital investment.
Since 1999, Colorado’s cleantech economy has grown at an annual rate of 18 percent, more than twice the rate of the Colorado economy as a whole. The nation’s largest national laboratory devoted to renewable energy research and development, NREL, is located in Golden, and Colorado’s major research institutions – the University of Colorado, Colorado State University and the Colorado School of Mines – are national leaders in cleantech and renewable energy research and development.
“Part of what draws cleantech companies to Colorado is the expertise that resides in our university research laboratories and, in turn, their close relationships with the business community,” said Chris Shappard, executive director for CCIA. “Colorado’s research community is second to none and we’re a proud partner of these innovative institutions.” CCIA will recognize excellence in cleantech research and commercialization at their inaugural ‘Celebrate Cleantech Research’ event on May 26.
“We were approached by many firms that wanted to work with us but we chose Metzger Associates because they understand the bigger picture of what makes the Colorado business climate unique and they have the experience of gaining national attention for businesses and organizations in emerging technology sectors,” said Shapard. “We look forward to working with the talented team at Metzger to help build not only CCIA’s brand but Colorado’s cleantech brand as a whole.”
One of the best examples of Metzger’s experience is the ongoing work the firm is doing with TechStars. Metzger Associates has represented TechStars, the nation’s leading startup incubator program, since its inception four years ago. Just as it helped to position TechStars nationally as the forerunner in entrepreneurial leadership, the Metzger team will work with CCIA to position Colorado as the worldwide cleantech leader.
