MGA wins PRSA Silver Anvil Award

Use of social media helps Denver firm win third Anvil in three years

Denver, Colo. - In honor of its clients at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, MGA Communications last night accepted the Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for Refuge Roundup 2008, a special event held at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Commerce City. The event was developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the U.S. Army, MGA, and its client, Shell Oil Co. at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. The award was presented during PRSA''s annual Silver Anvil Awards ceremony in New York City.

This is the third time in as many years that MGA has received the PRSA Silver Anvil, the icon of best practices in public relations.

Refuge Roundup is an annual event that showcases the Refuge’s many wildlife and cultural resources available to neighboring residents. To reach new audiences, MGA enhanced traditional community outreach with social media, developing a Facebook fan page, a Flickr photo site and YouTube video site to share information about the event and ongoing activities at the Refuge. Attendance at the 2008 Refuge Roundup nearly doubled from the previous year.

In addition to the PRSA Silver Anvil Award, MGA was selected as a finalist for The Holmes’ Report SABRE award for special events for its work on Refuge Roundup 2008 and also took home a Gold Pick Award from the PRSA Colorado Chapter in May.

“We are so pleased to have our clients and their programs honored by our peers. We realize how fortunate we are to have clients who give us the opportunity to partner with them on programs that make a difference in the community,” said Jeff Julin, president of MGA Communications.

For more than 20 years, MGA has managed an award-winning community engagement program for its client Shell Oil Co. at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal about the ongoing cleanup and transformation of the site into a premier urban national wildlife refuge.
