The mobile phone review of this phone has obviously been aimed at music lovers and as the title suggests it offers the user the Sony Walkman music interface with all of its features for organising a vast music library. Also the Sony Mix Walkman comes with a feature called Zappin which previews the chorus of each song, giving the user a very intuitive music selection process.
For those who feel like exercising their lungs a little there is a Karaoke feature which allows the user to mute the vocals in a selected track and with the aid of the microphone and inbuilt stereo speakers they can substitute their own, for better or worse!
The Sony Mix Walkman is powered by Sony's own operating system which in this case has social networking features such as Facebook and Twitter as well as the ability to view video clips from Youtube. There is also the ability to send SMS and MMS, as is expected now in every mobile device, with a predictive text feature. This is all controlled with a 3 inch TFT touch screen at a resolution of 400 * 240 pixels.
Also featured is an on screen U.I. inspired by the Sony Android O.S. to place useful applications in the corners of the home screen. However although useful the version on the Sony Mix Walkman is somewhat watered down.
The Sony Mix Walkman allows for full web web browsing courtesy of Obigo 7 which supports all basic HTML picture and video protocols and for further connectivity the 3.2MP camera is also integrated into the web and social networking functions of the Sony Mix Walkman with the ability to upload images and video straight from the device to the web. All this is possible over a Wi-Fi connection for frugal use of your data plan.
The Sony Mix Walkman can be personalized with coloured bands that fit around the body of the phone. Some of which have little moulded shapes (cloud and bird)on the edge. These are supposed to be able to express your mood but we can't help feeling that they are all a bit unnecessary but if your not content with just changing the colour of the case we suppose you might find this interesting.
This just about sums up our feeling towards the Sony Mix Walkman as we feel there are already more capable phones in the Sony Ericsson range that are currently available on a budget, without the gimmicks.
For us this should have been a marriage between the old Sony Xperia X-10 Mini and a Walkman with Android O.S. Save the development costs and bring on the budget Android with Walkman don't you think
Keep an eye out for the biggest networks offering Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman deals.
