“Through our sustainable growing practices, we have already ensured that every bottle of wine Mount Pleasant produces is green,” said Chuck Dressel, president of Mount Pleasant. “Now we want to make sure that when people visit either of our locations in Augusta or Branson they are visiting a sustainable environment.”
Mount Pleasant built their new Branson location, which opened spring 2008, with a focus on sustainable practices. The 9,200 square-foot tasting and bottling experience runs entirely on hydro-electric power and the structure is built partially into the ground to reduce energy consumption. The winery is also converting the 150-year-old winery in Augusta into a green destination. For example, both destinations now use only energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs. Recycling receptacles are available at both winery locations, for everything from paper products to glass.
Mount Pleasant will continue stepping up its green efforts throughout its 150th year beyond the winery’s sustainable viticulture practices to its customer service venues. The winery has implemented a bottle return program to promote recycling at both locations. Guests can bring one empty wine bottle to either winery location and receive 10% off their take-home purchases.
“We are honored that we have been producing award-winning wine for 150 years,” said Dressel. “We want to do all we can to give back to Mother Earth, so she can continue to nurture our grapes for another 150 years.”
