The acquisition also adds nonprofit strategies to New Media Lab's offerings. The company has developed a social media curriculum to help small- and medium-sized businesses incorporate social media into their existing marketing and customer service strategies. New Media Lab also assists enterprise-level customers with development and implementation of community-building strategies, while helping to reduce overall costs by educating internal teams.
Technology changes so rapidly, according to New Media Lab co-Founder Benn Rosales, that it's nearly impossible for businesses to keep pace, making education a key part of the company's focus. "Our lab format provides a collaborative setting that allows a business owner, executive, or key staff member to explore how their company can employ social media strategies to set their branded voice in motion."
While some recognize Austin as the live music capital of the world, New Media Lab has dubbed Austin the live social media capital of the world. "Austin is not just a high tech center," Benn Rosales said, "it's a center of innovation in new media. Our goal is to bring business leaders from around the country here to learn in a place imbued with wonderfully creative talent and energy."
Reece embodies that talent and energy as a pioneer in conversational communication for business, according to Lani Rosales. "Connie is authentic and generous with her time and talent," New Media Lab co-founder Lani Rosales said. "While she is on the bleeding edge of social media, she has never called herself a 'guru'; but if there ever was one, it is Connie."
All three are recipients of the 2009 Texas Social Media Awards, created by the Austin American-Statesman to recognize outstanding use of blogging and such Web sites as Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. Reece was profiled in the March issue of Austin Woman magazine as one of the city's "social media mavens."
