Featuring Knock Out® Roses and Pink Double Knock Out® Roses, the beds are part of a continuing partnership between Smith’s media company Hortus, Ltd., his landscape company P. Allen Smith & Associates, and the Argenta Arts Foundation, and were installed by the Argenta Downtown Council and the Pulaski County Master Gardeners. “It’s exciting to see a community so willing to invest in creating an environment that affects the quality of life of its citizens in so many positive ways,” Smith says. “I love that we’ll be able to add to the beauty of Argenta with these magnificent roses.”
Low maintenance and easy to care for, The Knock Out ® Family of Roses are incredibly floriferous—producing an abundance of blooms every five to six weeks from spring until frost. “We are thrilled that Knock Out® Roses will be planted in Argenta,” said Steve Hutton, president of Conard-Pyle. “The vibrant residents of Argenta will enjoy colorful blooms all season long!” Hutton will join Smith and Mayor Hays for the announcement.
Peggy Cornett, curator of plants at Monticello, will also be on hand. An expert on historic plants, Cornett will be in Little Rock for a lecture at the Clinton School of Public Service on Friday, May 13, and will speak about the historic roses at Monticello.
The announcement will coincide with the Argenta Farmers Market, and will be followed by a book signing of Smith’s new cookbook, P. Allen Smith’s Seasonal Recipes from the Garden, which focuses on cooking with fresh, in-season produce. He will also be signing copies of his new how-to card deck collection.
