Johnson County's Only Outdoor Ice Rink, The Ice at Park Place, Opens 2011-2012 Season On November 19 With Radio Disney

Festivities Will Also Include Human Hamster Ball, Photos With Santa And Benefits For The Children's Place of Kansas City

LEAWOOD,Kan. (October 28, 2011) – The Ice at Park Place, the only outdoor ice rink in
Johnson County, will hold its grand opening celebration from noon – 2 p.m. on
Saturday, November 19, 2011 to kick off its fourth season at Park Place,
located at 117th and Nall in Leawood. Admission to the grand opening
is $6 for children ten and under and ­­­­­­$7 for those older than ten. A
portion of collected admissions during the grand opening will be donated to The
Children’s Place of Kansas City, helping the very youngest victims of abuse,
neglect and other trauma receive developmental and mental health needs. Skate
rental is available for $3. Skaters are welcome to bring their own skates.

Radio Disney’s Rockin’ Road Crew will be on-site to host the grand opening, spin
tunes and interact with the kids by playing games on the ice and handing out
giveaways, creating fun for the entire family. In addition to Radio Disney’s
Rockin’ Road Crew, entertainment includes human hamster balls on the ice, a
mobile video game arcade provided by Games2U Entertainment, free face painting
by Sister Act Painting, free balloon art by DJ the Balloon man, and photos with
Santa Claus.

Giveaways include 100 goody bags and four Disney Prize Packs, including tickets to “The
Muppets” movie, which opens in theaters on November 23, DVDs, CDs, and Park
Place gift cards. Attendees will be able to sign up at the Radio Disney table
and the winners will be announced at the grand opening. There is no age limit
to enter.

Park Place is committed to entertaining its patrons and invites guests to dine-in at
any of its 9 restaurants including its two newest eateries, 801 Chophouse and
Gordon Biersch.

The Ice Seasonal Hours

Nearly 20,000 skaters visited The Ice during the 2010 – 2011 season. The Ice’s ongoing
operating hours during the holidays are 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., Monday through
Saturday, and noon – 8:00 p.m. on Sundays. Holiday hours operate through
January 8, 2012. Hours thereafter are:

  • Friday and Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon – 8:00 p.m. 

The Ice is open daily from November 18, 2011 to February 20, 2012. Admission is $6
for children ten and under and $7 for all others. Group rates and party
