Life after the 'graveyard'

By Raquel De Brito

Real Estate rookie Peter Parsons has come a long way since working graveyard shifts at a service station.

He joined the Peard Real Estate Group six months ago and last month earned $30,000.

He moved to Australia from Britain 14 months ago and was struggling to break into the industry until he crossed paths with Peard Lawrence licensee Gary Fife.

"One of our managers met him at a local BP service station up in Joondalup and struck up a relationship," Peard Real Estate Group chief executive Peter Peard said.

"He offered Peter a job with us because he felt really comfortable that he'd go well in real estate.

"He's only been in Australia for 14 months and it's particularly hard to get started when you've got no family and friend networks, so what he's acheived is pretty amazing.

"In the past six months he's been earning $5000 to $10,000 a month and then last month he earned $30,000. If he keeps going the way he is, which he will, he'll be earning $40,000 to $50,000 every month."

Mr Parsons worked in recruitment in the UK and was struggling financially when he arrived in Australia.

"I thought having a sales background it would be easy to walk into real estate, but I had no licence, no money for a licence and suddenly my options closed," Mr Parsons said.

"I met Gary Fife and he was probably one of the only people that didn't dismiss me. He showed a professional attitude. "I met with four or five other agencies, but Peard were so far ahead with their marketing and the strategies they were employing."

Mr Parsons siad that having previously worked "horrendous" midnight-to-8am shifts at the service station had helped keep him focused on his goals.
