A ladies only function, the fundraising event was aptly called the 'Exclusive Ladies Affair (ELA) with 86 women attending a special gold class screening of the movie Sex And The City 2.
It is estimated that one in nine women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and the funds raised by this function will be used to assist local women deal with this disease. The BCFWA is a WA charity that provides personalised emotional, practical and financial support to women affected by breast cancer.
Brodie Fleay, Marketing Manager of The Peard Real Estate Group said that the proceeds from the fund raising event would go to assist the important work of the BCFWA.
"This is the second such event that the female employees of the Peard Real Estate Group has organised to raise funds for this worthy charity. A similar event last December raised $7,000 for the BCFWA.
"The event was hugely successful. In true Sex And The City style, 86 women walked the red carpet with their girlfriends and a cosmo in hand. The paparazzi (Aperture 22 Photography) were in full force to add to the glamour of the evening. All guests received goody bags and took part in lucky dips, a silent auction and a costume photo booth which were all donated by generous individuals and local businesses.
"This year’s special guest Petrina Burnett, gave an inspiring speech about her journey with Breast Cancer. Petrina was diagnosed when she was only 31 after finding a lump in her armpit. She then discovered she had an inherited genetic condition called BRCA1 which increases a women’s chance of getting Breast Cancer by up to 90% and Ovarian Cancer by up to 60%.
"Petrina’s experience with Breast Cancer is one of positivity and humour, crediting her friends, family and the BCFWA for getting her through the process with laughter instead of tears. After conquering Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and Mastectomy - Reconstructions all before turning 33, Petrina is now working with women like herself helping them to rehabilitate after treatment.
“ELA is all about empowering, educating and bringing women together in a fun and decadent fashion”. Katie Bullied, Marketing & Design Co-ordinator of Peard Real Estate Group said.
“Being lucky enough to meet inspirational women like Petrina, makes the time and effort put into ventures like ELA completely worthwhile. The Peard Real Estate Group is lucky enough to be in a position where we can utilise company and personal employee contacts to put together fundraising events such as ELA. It provides a great sense of satisfaction to not only help the community, but to also bring our staff and the public together in support of local organisations such as the BCFWA
“To date, we have raised $17,000 for The Breast Cancer Foundation of WA. This figure would not have been achieved without the generosity of our function sponsors and donations from local business. This year we were lucky enough to have not only Gough Recruitment as event partners, but also Evolution Settlements, Well Connected, Label Magic, Printforce, Staff Rite Recruitment and Ribaudos Ristaurante," she said.
Corporate Finance Controller of the Peard Group, Maree Overton added “We like to encourage our staff to be actively involved in the community wherever possible as that is where they live, work and play. We are so proud that the Exclusive Ladies Affair has been such a success and we look forward to maintaining this relationship with the BCFWA for years to come".
