11.04.2009 – FOLLANSBEE, WV...A Follansbee® TCS II® standing seam roof now tops a newly constructed residence near Philadelphia, PA, working well with the home’s stone exterior.
When the homeowner began considering roofing options, copper and zinc originally topped the list of material choices. Follansbee TCS II, with its durability, long lasting performance and sleek aesthetic appeal, proved to be a better choice, and was ultimately selected for the new home. In addition to its functional attributes, the terne-coated stainless steel lends a timeless look to the traditional residence.
“We selected TCS II for its clean lines, beautiful weathered look, minimal maintenance requirements and longevity,” explains Charles Loomis, vice president for Charles Loomis Chariss McAfee, Architects. “The design additionally dictated the need for a solderable roofing material. TCS II satisfied that requirement.”
Approximately 4,000 square feet of TCS II was installed as a standing seam roof. Sno-Gem snow guards lend an added element of functionality, providing a barrier against snow and ice.
“TCS II remains a popular choice for both residential and commercial applications,” explains Edward Thomas, Follansbee vice president and general manager. “The material’s soft, satin gray patina and long lasting durability combine to form an unparalleled metal roofing option.”
Construction on the home began in the fall of 2006 and was completed during fall 2008. In addition to Charles Loomis Chariss McAfee, Architects as the architect, the project team included Roofing Contractor Willistown Contractors, Downington, PA, as roofing contractor and Spencer Abbott Builders, Edgemont, PA, as General Contractor.
Follansbee TCS II, an architectural stainless steel coated with Follansbee's patented ZT® (zinc/tin) alloy, weathers naturally to an attractive gray patina and does not require painting. The highly versatile TCS II can be tailored to a variety of design forms – from the traditional standing seam roof to vertical walls, barrel applications, shingles and customized sections in flat or spherical shapes. TCS II is solderable and virtually maintenance-free. To date, TCS II has surpassed 30,250 hours of ASTM International salt spray testing. Competitive products fail at approximately 2,000 hours.
