01.13.2010 – (Washington, DC) – Public relations professionals, business owners, and communicators of all stripes will convene to learn to harness the power of social media for traditional media coverage at “Twitch!: Public Relations in the Age of Social Media” on Thursday, Jan. 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Busboys and Poets, in Washington, DC.
The now sold out event, hosted by Mopwater PR + Media Notes, will bring together an expert panel of local DC journalists who regularly use social media to source their stories as well as interact with public relations professionals, communicators and the public. Communicators will learn the revolutionary way these reporters are gathering news and the way PR pros must interact with them using new media.
The moderator for the evening will be Jim Long, of NBC Universal and Verge New Media, LLC. Panelists are Jennifer Nycz-Conner, reporter and features writer for the Washington Business Journal; Jamila Bey, contributor to National Public Radio; McLean Robbins, Health, Beauty and Lifestyles features writer for Washingtonian and DC Modern Luxury Magazines; Lindsey Mastis, digital correspondent for WUSA9 News Now; and Ryan Grim, senior congressional correspondent for the Huffington Post and former staff reporter with Politico.com and Washington City Paper.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports employment in public relations is growing and the recent emergence of social media is expected to increase job growth, but in an increasingly competitive job environment there is a high demand for public relations practitioners with specialized knowledge of social media. Understanding the relationship between the media, public relations and social media is more important now more than ever.
Twitch! is hosted by Amanda Miller Littlejohn of Mopwater PR, creator of Mopwater PR + Media Notes. The event is also a celebration of the Mopwater PR + Media Notes blog's first anniversary, and release of the book "The Mopwater PR + Media Notes Manual for a Stellar PR Career" which was authored by Twitch hostess Amanda Miller Littlejohn and features a foreword by Deirdre Breakenridge, President of PFS Marketwyse and co-author of the 2009 release “Putting the Public Back in Public Relations,” with PR 2.0 pioneer Brian Solis.
