Got Video? Enter the Wyoming Short Film Contest to Win a $25,000 Prize

Filmmakers and videographers of all genres and styles welcome to submit

02.24.2009 – The Wyoming Short Film Contest is underway and accepting submissions until April 30. All styles and genres are welcome including film, animation and machinima. Submissions must be 15 minutes or less in length. The winning filmmaker will receive $25,000 towards the budget of their next film that is made in Wyoming.

There is no entry fee, no limit on the number of submissions, and no residency restrictions to enter. The only content requirements for submissions is that the story takes place in Wyoming, presents Wyoming as a major character in the storyline, or features Wyoming in some way.

Last year's winner, David Gonzales of Jackson, WY, submitted a series of four films titled "Get Up Stand Up," "Bugs," "Kiting," and "Igneous" but not without a little drama of his own.

"A friend left me a phone message about it. At the time, I was in Mexico, working on a short web film for Timex, so I didn't really think about it until I got back to Jackson," said Gonzales who also works as a professional photographer. "Then I listened to the message again, found that the deadline was coming up in a few days, and scrambled to enter."

While the Wyoming Film Office does not recommend last minute entries, they have partnered with media hosting service mDialog.com to make it more cost-effective to submit videos entirely online through the mDialog video player. Bloggers and web site owners are welcome to embed the player into their blogs or sites to accept submissions.
