Vermont Apple Orchards Host Annual iPod Contest

Apples to iPods Kick-Off Event Sept. 23 at Shelburne Orchards

MONTPELIER, Vt. - Visitors to Vermont's pick-your-own orchards will have a chance to win an Apple iPod during the "Apples to iPods" fall promotion that kicks off Sept. 23 at a special event in Shelburne.

Specially marked wooden apples are being placed in apple trees at participating pick-your-own orchards around the state. The lucky customers who find a wooden apple will win an Apple iPod, and one winner will receive an Apple iPad.

“Vermont’s apple orchards are full of activity this time of year and the ‘Apples to iPods’ promotion is a creative way to make apple picking even more fun,” said Bruce Hyde, Vermont’s Commissioner of Tourism and Marketing. “Apple picking is the perfect way to experience Vermont’s gorgeous autumn landscape and participate in a fun activity that Vermonters have long enjoyed.”

The promotion begins Sept. 23 with a Fall Season Kick-Off Event at Shelburne Orchards, featuring Woodchuck Cider to celebrate the autumn harvest. The kick-off event is free and open to the public from 4 to 6 p.m. at Shelburne Orchards, located at 216 Orchard Rd. in Shelburne.

"This is the perfect way to enjoy a fall day," said Nick Cowles, owner of Shelburne Orchards. "Taste some hard cider from Woodchuck, sample some cheese and doughnuts, and head out into the orchard to pick apples."

The "Apples to iPods" promotion is sponsored in partnership with the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, Woodchuck Cider, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, and Small Dog Electronics.
