After debuting its inaugural Race for the Rail at last year’s GoPro Mountain Games in Vail Colorado, Onewheel is proud to announce the next round of competition set to go live in front of this year’s 2016 crowd. Race for the Rail takes some of the best outdoor athletes from the Mountain Games and pins them head-to-head to compete for the fastest time on an aggressive boardercross track.
Onewheel will be on-site throughout the entire event offering demos, gear giveaways and time trials for the public leading up to the elite.
"The GoPro Mountain Games is ground zero for some of the fastest growing outdoor and action sports so it's a perfect fit to host Onewheel's marquee race event," said Future Motion Inc. CEO and Onewheel founder Kyle Doerksen. "We're stoked to feature some of the best athletes in the world and can't wait to see who comes out on top."
With the Onewheel’s versatility across a multitude surfaces, it is rapidly becoming the perfect new age boardsport for the outdoor enthusiasts that are looking for the freedom to ride endlessly, without barriers. The Race for the Rail will be taken on by some big names such as SUP athletes Mike Tavares and Dan Gavere, as well as Whitewater powerhouses Dane Jackson. These athletes will be bumping elbows while making sharp turns through the course to see who will be standing on the podium at day’s end.
“Last year’s race was a pretty basic setup but the riders had a blast and the crowd was blown away,” said Jack Mudd, Onewheel’s Chief Product Evangelist. “We knew that we had to come back this year and take it to the next level. Many of the GoPro Mountain Games Athletes are extremely talented riders and it’s a competitive group so we’ll be putting them to the test.”
Onewheel urges fans both old and new to find them in Lionshead Gondola Yard for a chance to demo the Onewheel and clock your best time on the course from June 9-12. The demo is free through the entirety of the event and fans can check out Onewheel’s social channels to follow along with the action at @rideonewheel #RaceForTheRail.
