Bigelow Homes Announces Plans to Build New Homes in Kyle’s Plum Creek Development

Recognizing Growth Opportunity in Hays County, Nationally-Recognized Builder Begins Construction in New Urbanist, Master-Planned Community South of Austin

KYLE, Texas – Today, Plum Creek Development Partners and Bigelow Homes announced that Bigelow Homes will offer new homes in the mixed-use, master-planned community of Plum Creek beginning in fall 2010.

Bigelow Homes is a Chicago-based, family-owned company that has received the coveted “Builder of the Year” award, the most esteemed national award in homebuilding, from Professional Builder Magazine. Recognizing the strength of the Central Texas real estate market, which is consistently rated one of the healthiest housing markets in the nation, Bigelow Homes began building homes in the San Marcos neighborhood of Blanco River Village in 2006. Recognizing Bigelow’s work in Central Texas, the Austin Business Journal awarded Bigelow Homes the award for best “Residential Real Estate Production Home Builder” in March 2010.

The mutual goal of creating neighborhoods that foster relationships between residents and create a strong sense of place brought Bigelow Homes and Plum Creek Development Partners together. Plum Creek incorporates principles of New Urbanism, which include the design of a walkable neighborhood where people can live, work and play. The model has proven itself – an established neighborhood that is continuing to grow today, Plum Creek is home to over 20 clubs hosting a range of activities, from swim team to Bunko groups. With experience planning and building New Urbanist communities in the Chicago area, Bigelow immediately recognized the value of Plum Creek.

Bigelow Homes will offer ten floor plans ranging from 1,100 to 3,000 square feet in size. Homes will be built in three parts of the neighborhood including an area near Negley Elementary, another tract of land near Plum Creek Square, and a third area south of Kohler’s Crossing. Bigelow Homes builds energy efficient homes and offers a $400 per year energy bill guarantee covering the first three years of home ownership.

Bigelow Homes joins KB Home in offering new homes within the mixed-use, master-planned community. KB Home has been operating in Plum Creek since 2007.

The diverse range of housing options and amenities in Plum Creek has helped to create a neighborhood that is home to young couples, families, empty nesters and seniors. The addition of ten new floor plans from Bigelow Homes is part of Plum Creek Development Partners’ plans to continue to support a variety of ages and incomes.

Plum Creek is in its second phase of development, which includes mixed-use, retail, residential and commercial projects. Recent happenings in Plum Creek include the announcement of Austin Community College plans to purchase 96 acres for a North Hays County site; the construction of Stepping Stone School, which will open in fall 2010; construction of Legend Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, the first nursing home and rehabilitation center in Kyle; the opening of TrustTexas Bank; and the opening of a 264-unit multifamily project by Vantage Communities. Existing development covers roughly 500 acres. Sites available for development encompass over 1,500 acres of commercial, residential and mixed-use land in the city of Kyle, which is located in Hays County.

The first Bigelow Homes sales model is under construction; the sales model and sales office will open in late September 2010.
