The Hill Country Kids and Family Triathlon has taken place in Plum Creek for the past four years. The master-planned community is an ideal neighborhood for this event for a number of reasons. Plum Creek is located 20 minutes south of downtown Austin along Interstate 35, making it an easy trip for Central Texas families. On race day, participants will begin the race by swimming in the Junior Olympic-sized McNaughton Pool, one of Plum Creek’s two community pools open to residents. After completing the swimming portion, contestants will transition for the biking/racing segments in the secluded, shaded area near the pool. Tree-lined, shaded streets serve as the biking and running courses for the race, keeping kids cool on a hot summer morning. The many shaded pocket parks tucked in throughout the neighborhood provide respite for the hundreds of family and friend supporters of the triathlon competitors. Alley access to homes within the neighborhood means that road closures won’t interfere with residents’ coming and goings, and that homeowners have places to park away from the race course. Because Plum Creek promotes community by placing heavy emphasis on “front porch living,” many residents camp out in their front yards to cheer on neighbors and friends.
Plum Creek residents enjoy hosting the Hill Country Kids and Family Triathlon event – it’s a great example of the kind of fit lifestyle supported by the mixed-use, master-planned community. In fact, Saturday morning training rides for the Hill Country Tri Club originate from Plum Creek Square, located near the entrance of the community, which is along FM 2770 in Kyle, Texas.
