METRO FORD REACHES 30 YEAR MILESTONE

OWNER ATTRIBUTES 3-DECADE SUCCESS TO FAMILY ENVIRONMENT & GREAT EMPLOYEES

03.03.2009 – SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- February 26, 2009: On March 1, 2009, Metro Ford of Schenectady will celebrate its 30th Anniversary since opening the business at 3601 State Street in 1979. For owner Lenny Dariano, the 30 years at the dealership has been a “dream come true.”

Metro Ford’s inspiring path to success begin with Dariano at Livermore Chevrolet in the mid 1950s, on the old auto row at Central Avenue in Albany, N.Y. Dariano began his work in the automotive industry as a new car conditioning mechanic, preparing purchased cars for the customers. However, Dariano ascended up the ladder at Livermore and was pursuaded by management into becoming a car salesman, a decision that provided the very early blueprints for Metro Ford.

Around 10 years into Dariano’s career as a salesman, he moved to Dick Smith’s Chevrolet on Wolf Road in Albany. Not long after, Dick Smith’s was eventually sold to James DeNooyer, owner of DeNooyer Chevrolet. DeNooyer appointed Dariano to help run the day-to-day operations of the dealership. Then in August of 1978, after 6 years at DeNooyer, Dariano was called into the boss’ office, where a simple race-horse analogy made Dariano’s dreams into reality.

“He said Len, I regard you as I would a race horse. You can’t keep a race horse tied up and corraled up too long. You have to let him go. It’s time for us to find a store for yourself,” said Dariano on his meeting with James DeNooyer.

After an exhausting nation-wide search, it turned out that what Dariano had been looking for was right in his own backyard. The two purchased what was then Helfrich Ford, on State Street in Schenectady. Dariano then opened the doors to Metro Ford of Schenectady on March 1, 1979 at 3601 State Street in Schenectady. After 30 years of business, however, the once car conditioning mechanic gives the majority of the credit to his outstanding employees.

Dariano says “We have six of us that are still here from day 1 and there are quite a few that retired that would still be here from day 1. We have a number of employees that have been here over 20 years and many 15 years or more. We’re proud of the fact that we have many long-standing employees... As far as my success is concerned, it’s not me, it’s the good people I hired to work for me. Because without them, we couldn’t run this business.”

Metro also prides itself its family environment that it provides for everyone who has ever walked in to the door. Dariano’s son, David now running Metro Ford has taken this philosphy to heart, hiring is brother-in-law David Carach to assist him in running the operations at Metro Ford. The two have successfully continued the extreme success of the historic dealership, making it one of the top-selling Ford Dealers in the Northeastern United States year after year. As for Dariano, he couldn’t be any happier of how his journey from pumping gas and fixing cars has turned into Albany’s premiere car dealership and more importantly, his family’s trademark business.

“They call this the country of dreams come true, and this certainly is a dream come true for me,” said Dariano.

As Metro Ford celebrates its 30th Anniversary, they are extremely proud of the loyalty, dedication, and customer service that has allowed them to flourish for the past 30 years. However, 30 years is not the end of the road for Metro. They look forward to serving the Capital Region with the same excellency that their customers have come to expect for another 30 years, continuing to set the benchmark for any dealership around.
