Powell Gardens Announces a Special Evening for a Great Cause

Under a Blue Moon Provides Funding for Children's Programs

Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s botanical garden, announces the ninth annual Under a Blue Moon: Garden Party and Rare Plant Auction will be held Sunday, June 10, 2012. This premier event provides funding for children's educational programs in the Heartland Harvest Garden, the Gardens' 12-acre edible landscape.

Under a Blue Moon begins at 5 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction featuring newly released and hard-to-find plants and other treasures. Following the silent auction, guests will enjoy an elegant dinner, catered by Lon Lane's Inspired Occasions, and wine pairings. The dinner will take place in a grand tent overlooking the Island Garden. A fast-paced live auction will feature garden tours and trips available exclusively through donors and members of Powell Gardens.

Event co-chairs are Wendy Powell and Dianne Swann. This year's honorary chairs are individuals who previously chaired Under a Blue Moon. They include Lisa Ball, Katherine Barton, Mary Biber, Stephen Chinn, Jean Kiene, JoAnn and Gregory Stultz, and Prudence True.

Tickets are $150. Patron tickets are $300. Sponsorship opportunities range from $1,500 to $10,000. Upper level sponsors will receive preferred seating, tickets to Under a Harvest Moon on September 30, 2012, and recognition in the Garden View newsletter. For information contact Allyson Summers at 816-697-2600 ext. 207.

Proceeds from Under a Blue Moon support children's programs focusing on growing fresh food and healthy eating.
