Project One Junior Gold Academy Gives Keys to Success in Life and Play

Three Atlanta Golf Students Have Received Collegiate Golf Scholarships

11.04.2009 – Smyrna, Ga. – Over the past four years, three adolescents from Project One Junior Golf Academy — Jarred Jones, Tawana Seay and Kyndal Turner — were awarded with college scholarships as a result of their affiliations with the academy.

“Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship program isn’t the only thing offering teens a college education,” said Vic Clark, founder of the nonprofit golf academy. “An affiliation with the POJGA can be helpful in putting adolescents into a serendipitous network of people.”

Jarred Jones became the first male of the Project One Junior Golf Academy to be accepted into college. A graduate with Honors of Jonesboro High School, where he attained the rank of Captain in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), he joined the golf academy in his sophomore year. Now, Jones is a senior at Morehouse College, thanks to a generous scholarship granted by an academy affiliate.

“Project One is a wonderful opportunity,” said Jones. “I got more than I expected and, while I can’t guarantee that each member will get a scholarship, I can promise you that you’ll benefit in the most unforeseen ways.”

In 2004, Tawana Seay graduated from Grambling State University. Her education was paid for in full by a scholarship awarded through an affiliate of the Project Junior Golf Academy five years prior.

“I never thought that being in the academy would have sent me to the university,” said Seay, now a human resources manager for the Coca-Cola Atlanta office.

Kyndal Turner received a scholarship from Cody Barden, a PGA Professional at White Columns Golf Course and from whom she is also receiving weekly golf lesson. She is attending the Galloway School in North Atlanta.

“C’mon and check us out!” says Vic Clark. “You might just learn more than you bargained for!”
