Quintiq Launches Workforce Planner at Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons

WAYNE, Pennsylvania – Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, today announced that the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has begun using the Quintiq Workforce Planner, an employee scheduling software solution to plan staffing assignments for its worldwide program of inspection missions. The tool went live at the end of March, following a highly successful and smooth implementation period.

An independent organization headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, OPCW is the implementing body of the global Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The OPCW is responsible for the day-to-day administration and implementation of the Convention, including inspections at former chemical weapons production facilities, chemical weapons storage depots, sites of abandoned chemical weapons, and chemical industries of interest to the Convention.

Unmatched flexibility makes Quintiq the only choice
Assigning inspectors to OPCW missions requires complex logistics and close cooperation on the part of the inspectors and States Parties. Over time, OPCW outgrew its legacy rostering tool, which was limited to only a single administrator and unable to cope with the complex planning environment. The built-in flexibility of the Quintiq approach enables a 100% fit with every organization’s specific business rule – ideal for OPCW’s needs. Additionally, Quintiq was able to demonstrate that it could fully support OPCW’s business goals. These included: to ensure a robust schedule with balanced mission teams and inspectors; to optimize inspector utilization to allow more missions with available resources; to reduce planning time and improve planning transparency; and to increase inspector satisfaction by taking into account individual preferences.

The Quintiq Workforce Planner, a fully configurable solution based on the proven Quintiq technology and architecture, provides OPCW with manual planning and decision support for all aspects of inspector mission planning, including mission rosters, training, desk assignments, and leave planning. It is integrated with key OPCW IT systems and databases, enabling interdepartmental communication, web access, and import/export of rosters and planning data. Phase two of the implementation will add advanced optimization capabilities for inspector mission planning and budgeting, and additional expanded functionality is being explored.

Fast time to benefit
Peter van Oorschot, Business Unit Director at Quintiq, adds: “This OPCW implementation is further proof that Quintiq is capable of handling the most complex planning requirements and at bringing real added value to companies and organizations of every type. We look forward to adding more functionality to the current solution to further increase the benefits OPCW can gain from its Quintiq Workforce Planner.”
