Assessment of 50 largest US cities to be launched during 2010's "The Business of Plugging In" conference.

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and Rocky Mountain Institute’s Project Get Ready to share nation-wide snapshot of EV readiness.

Snowmass, CO - Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, a leading global consultancy, and Rocky Mountain Institute, a Colorado-based “think and do" tank dedicated to the profitable transition from fossil fuels to efficiency and renewables, will release a new report evaluating the readiness of major cities across America for Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) on October 14, 2010 at "The Business of Plugging In" in Detroit, MI.

Two of the study's authors, Antonio Benecchi, Partner at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, and Matt Mattila, Manager of RMI’s Project Get Ready, an initiative to prepare cities throughout North America for electric vehicles, will discuss the findings of the PEV Readiness Study during a 10:15 a.m.-noon panel discussion with civic leaders from around the country in the Detroit Marriott's Renaissance Ballroom.

"Some pioneer cities have been planning for years and are aware of the key issues, but within a few years, PEVs will be available nationwide, so it is critical for all cities to start preparing. "The Business of Plugging In" is really the right forum to share our findings and have this discussion," said Benecchi. "Representatives from all key stakeholders who want to see America driving electric vehicles in the future will be on hand and should find our findings insightful."

The timely study, Electric Vehicles in America: The question is no longer "whether" they will come, but "how fast" and "where first", will shed light on where the impending waves of mass market electric vehicles will hit and how follower cities can quickly "get ready" and catch up. The 50-city study is the most extensive evaluation of city preparations for electric vehicles, based on several months of collaborative research, interviews, and analysis by Rocky Mountain Institute and Roland Berger. Its findings are intended to guide national and private stakeholders during the rollout of electric vehicles while inspiring cities to take additional steps to prepare. The report contains key findings and highlights, while city-specific assessments from the study are available upon request.

"Working with over a dozen partner cities through Project Get Ready, we have a deep knowledge on the importance and complexity of EV readiness. This report expands on the work we have done in several regions, and gives a nation-wide snapshot,” said Mattila. “We want to emphasize that, while some areas are leading and others are following, in the end, all cities will ‘win’ with the EV transition. When we re-evaluate cities in a year or two, many of today's followers will have become leaders, building off of years of preparation and lessons learned from other cities."

The report will be posted at noon on Thursday, October 16, 2010, and may be accessed at www.rolandberger.com and www.rmi.org.

The panel discussion will be open to credentialed and registered members of the media, per organizer instructions at http://www.bpiconference.com/media, and the authors will be available to answer questions about the report and findings.
