Rocky Mountain Institute Awarded €1,000,000 by Dutch National Postcode Lottery

Non-profit is awarded funding by Dutch Prime Minister Belkenende at ceremony in The Hague

Snowmass, CO. Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) today announced that it has received a €1,000,000, or US $1,316,000, award from the Dutch National Postcode Lottery. RMI learned of this award at the Dutch National Postcode Lottery’s annual gala in February, where Dutch Prime Minister Belkenende gave the keynote address. The generous award will support RMI’s programs and initiatives driving the efficient and restorative use of resources.

RMI’s Amory Lovins stated, “RMI is grateful for and excited about this first time award from the National Postcode Lottery, which supports charitable causes all over the world.” Marty Pickett, RMI’s Executive Director noted “this grant is especially timely given the economic downturn facing both the US and Europe. Like most nonprofits, RMI’s philanthropic revenue is running behind budget this year. While this award won’t make up for the entirety of philanthropic reductions we’re experiencing, it ensures our ability to make significant progress on our mission, which is more important now than ever.”

Founded by visionary Amory Lovins in 1982, RMI is an independent nonprofit organization based in Colorado, US, that provides innovative research and consulting in the areas of oil independence, renewable energy, resource planning, green buildings and transportation.

Since 1989, the Dutch Postcode Lottery has been raising funds to support organizations working for a fairer, greener world. Fifty percent of its income goes to charity. The lottery has grown to become the Netherlands’ biggest charity lottery and supports 65 charitable organizations. Since its founding, the lottery has dispensed more than 2.7 billion Euros to its beneficiaries.
