01.12.2009 – The Material Intersections January 2009 podcast coproduced by RTT USA, Inc. (RTT), a leader in realtime 3D visualization software and services for product design and marketing, and Art Center College of Design’s Color, Materials and Trends Exploration Laboratory (CMTEL), will explore the topic of everyday materials re-imagined.
The five-minute podcast led by Michele Hess, director of RTT’s Material & Color Connection, and Marshall Hamachi, CMTEL’s associate director, will focus on giving everyday materials a second life.
“From the organic, to the found, to the common, we will explore the concept of repurposing materials and thinking beyond their original use to create a new life or function for the material,” said Hess. “We want viewers to not think about what the material is in reality, but what it could potentially be. From bubble wrap to packing paper, we’ll examine how everyday materials can be applied to innovative product design.”
The podcasts can be accessed on Art Center’s CMTEL Web site at http://www.accd-cmtel.com/vcmtel_featuredpodcast.html.
Launched in December 2008, the goal of Material Intersections is to connect the tactile and technical worlds in an inspiring format combining thoughtful narrative and rich visuals. The podcasts will explore a different material trend each month. In the future, the podcasts will feature interviews with designers who will provide insight on various materials they use during the design application process.
RTT and Art Center’s coproduction of the material trends podcast showcases the capabilities of RTT’s proprietary software, RTT DeltaGen, and brings visual inspiration to the art and design community.
Upcoming podcast topics include:
Artisanship
