Russell Herder Wins SILVER in Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards

The agency’s campaign for the Minnesota Department of Human Services recognized in the “Health Promotion Program” category

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) Minneapolis marketing firm, Russell Herder, has won a SILVER award in the Health Promotion Program Category at the Twenty-Eighth Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards. The work being recognized was conducted with the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Problem Gambling Program to heighten awareness of problem gambling and treatment options.

Russell Herder won the DHS business in 2004, and since that time has developed a series of public campaigns with the government division, which specializes in assisting people with their health and basic needs.

Among the tactics evaluated for the award were two microsites: NoJudgment.com, designed for problem gamblers themselves, and TreatmentDoesWork.com, which is a resource for family, friends and employers of problem gamblers. Each site offers information tailored to the audience in question, including details about how to identify problem gambling and seek treatment. Two Facebook pages, one for adults and the other for college students, also allows for information exchange on problem gambling and serves as a referral source to the microsites and a toll-free support hotline.

“Problem gambling is an issue that devastates far too many individuals,” said Brian Herder, Principal and Executive Creative Director at Russell Herder. “We really wanted to reinforce the message that there is hope – even in what might seem like a desperate situation – and to remove any stigma attached to the idea of seeking professional help for this addiction.”

Sponsored by the Healthcare Marketing Report, this year’s competition drew nearly 4,000 entries, and just over 700 were selected for an award. According to the Healthcare Advertising Awards website, a national panel of judges was engaged in reviewing all entries based on creativity, quality, message effectiveness, consumer appeal, graphic design and overall impact. The Healthcare Advertising Awards is reported to be the oldest, largest and most widely respected healthcare advertising awards competition.
