SCE&G adds more online services
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Nov. 3, 2009) – Moving to a new home requires lots of planning and packing, and South Carolina Electric & Gas Company hopes to make one item on the “to do” list easier. Thanks to a new online service, residents can set up their electric and natural gas accounts by visiting the company’s Web site, sceg.com. Customers who are moving within the SCE&G service territory can also go online to transfer service to a new address, start service at an additional location or even stop service.

“We know consumers go to the Web every day to take care of many household tasks,” said SCE&G General Manager of Customer Services Molly Morris, “so we’re especially pleased to offer the convenience of going online to start, stop or transfer your electric and natural gas service.”

More than 10,000 order requests have been received since the new tool went online June 9, 2009. This request rate is 103 percent above the company’s original estimate of use. Completing an online request form for starting, stopping or transferring service takes just a few minutes, and the status of the request can be tracked online.

“Our call center representatives continue to be available 24 hours a day to help new residents and current customers with their energy needs,” explained Morris. “The addition of these services provides another tool for those interested in managing their electricity and natural gas account online.”

Customers who register for an online account can also view their billing statement and billing history, make an online bill payment and use the Energy Analyzer – a program designed to provide an analysis of a customer’s consumption history, temperature impact and typical energy costs on a monthly basis.
Visit sceg.com to access all the company’s online options.

South Carolina Electric & Gas Company is a regulated public utility engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity to approximately 654,000 customers throughout central, southern and southwestern portions of South Carolina.
