“Part of our company mission is to raise awareness among drivers that pregnant women are traveling among them on the nation’s roadways every day… and that includes during holidays when highway traffic and, unfortunately, traffic accidents increase,” says Founder and CEO, Ingrid Franz Moriarty. “It’s by raising awareness that pregnant women are part of the increased holiday traffic that we believe we might contribute something positive in terms of roadway safety. According to a 2008 University of Michigan study published in American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology*, approximately 170,000 car crashes in the US involve pregnant women, so this is a real issue.”
Encouraging others to join in the effort, Ingrid goes on to state that, “Twitter is a great way to get the word out because the message can become part of the ongoing holiday banter, right when it’s needed most, and it’s easy for others to help spread the word with a simple retweet or reply. We had some great participation from others during our first ever awareness initiative over the Memorial Day holiday and encourage others to join in for the July 4th holiday, too!”
