Snapdragon Inn in Windsor, VT is not only known as a luxurious Vermont getaway, but also as the former home of renowned literary editor Maxwell Perkins. Perkins is credited for discovering F. Scott Fitzgerald and worked with other writers such as Ernest Hemingway and Thomas Wolfe. Perkins was known for his dedication to nurturing the writers he worked with. He was passionate and devoted to helping each writer produce their best work. As such, the innkeepers at Snapdragon Inn have looked for opportunities to support the Perkins legacy and increase opportunities for guests to learn more about the heritage behind the inn.

This year, Snapdragon is pleased to lend their support to The Center for Fiction’s Annual Benefit & Awards Dinner, which is being held in conjunction with the presentation of the Maxwell E. Perkins Award for Distinguished Achievement in the field of fiction on December 6th  2011 in New York City. The Snapdragon Inn has donated a two night getaway package to help support the work of the center through their benefit auction.

The Maxwell E. Perkins Award recognizes the work of an editor, publisher or agent, who has “discovered, nurtured, and championed writers of fiction in the United States.” This year’s award is being given to Nan Graham, who has worked with such authors as Stephen King, Don DeLillo and Annie Proulx.

Snapdragon Inn is pleased to support the ongoing efforts of the Center for Fiction as it aims to provide the resources and atmosphere that inspires writers and engages readers.

More About The Center for Fiction:

The Center for Fiction is the only nonprofit in the U.S. solely dedicated to celebrating fiction, and we work every day to connect readers and writers. Time Out calls The Center one of the top three reasons to stay in Manhattan for literary events, citing the innovative panels, lectures and conversations that take place in our beautiful building on East 47th Street. We also feature workspace, grants, and classes to support emerging writers, reading groups on classic and contemporary authors, and programs to help get kids reading.  We recognize the best in the world of fiction through our annual awards, and we operate one of the few independent fiction book shops in the country.  We are also an important piece of New York City history, continuing to build our renowned circulating library collection, begun in 1820 by New York City merchants before the advent of the public library system.
