Washington, DC. D.C. United announced today plans to sponsor the Stafford Area Soccer Association’s (SASA) 2012 St. Patrick’s Day Tournament. Through this partnership, United will form closer ties to the local soccer community.
As part of the agreement, SASA will be able to provide great benefits to teams playing in the 2012 tournament, including meeting a D.C. United player. Additionally, division winners and team MVPs of each age group will be recognized at a spring D.C. United home match-a nationally televised game on NBC, March 30th, 2012 at 7:30 PM. Division winning teams and MVPs will have a chance to participate in on-field activities at RFK Stadium. Coaches will also be invited to attend a pre-game “Chalk Talk” with United’s technical staff during a 2012 United home match.
The tournament will be held on March 17-18, 2012 and is one of the top spring pre-season tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic. Last year, 264 boys and girls teams between the ages of 9 and 19 participated in the event. In total, over 12,000 participants, parents, siblings, coaches, volunteers, and spectators attended, making the tournament one of the largest events of the year in Stafford County, VA.
“We're very excited to extend our sponsorship/partnership agreement with D.C. United," said SASA Tournament Director Elvis Lewis. "Their support has been extremely helpful throughout the years and 2012 will be no exception."
SASA will also have a special ticket offer for all tournament teams to United’s 2012 home opener and other games throughout the year on its official tournament website and will include D.C. United in all tournament promotional materials.
