“Sam Sullivan: Life in a Wheel” premiere screening at District 319 on Feb. 9

Charles Annenberg Weingarten to Explore Vancouver Culture and Humanity

Vancouver, British Columbia -- Charles Annenberg Weingarten and his signature project explore – a philanthropic multimedia organization whose mission is to champion the selfless acts of others – will hold the premiere film screening of “Sam Sullivan: Life in a Wheel” at District 319 in Vancouver’s downtown core on February 9, 2010.

In the film, join former Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan as he recounts the freak ski accident that left him quadriplegic at the age of 19. Learn how Mr. Sullivan’s unique life experiences have shaped his vision for the city he loves, and how he continues to make the seemingly impossible possible through novel projects and organizations related to disabilities and drug rehabilitation.

Directed by Charles Annenberg Weingarten, Vice President and Director of the Annenberg Foundation, the film is the latest release from explore's vast media library. explore films showcase extraordinary non-profit efforts and people around the world, including a Los Angeles priest who helps integrate gang members into society, a woman in Mumbai who rescues girls from life on the streets, a project to protect wild mountain gorillas in Rwanda and a Costa Rican university dedicated to sustainable development.

Sam Sullivan and explore team members will join Charles Annenberg Weingarten for the screening and to examine issues of global relevance that have a local impact and are part of the Vancouver culture.

Approximately 15 community leaders who represent the different areas of the city’s social fabric will kick off the day with short, three-minute “speed speeches”, providing intimacy, depth and cultural context to local, national and international media.
