Where's the Beach?

Target Vacations launches the “likeable” Where’s the Beach? contest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - November 17, 2010

Toronto, ON - Facebook is for snoops and slackers, you say? Think again.

Target Vacations is using Facebook to launch the largest Social Media trip giveaway Canada’s ever seen.

If you’re not part of the social network you’re missing out on a chance at a free beach holiday for two. Indeed, Target Vacations, in conjunction with Sunquest Vacations
and Occidental Hotels & Resorts, wants to send its lucky fans on one of eight all-inclusive trips to the Mayan Riviera. Contestants enter by "liking" the Target Vacations Facebook page and then guessing the location of a mystery beach.

“A big part of going on holiday is the anticipation, and this contest is about just that. I wanted to create the kind of excitement that every Canadian feels when planning a vacation,” says Jason Sarracini, President of TargetVacations.ca.

Every two weeks the contest, designed and executed by OneMethod Digital + Design, will restart with a new mystery beach and a new vacation.

"It's exciting to see Canadian companies like TargetVacations raising the bar for Facebook contests." said Jay Goldman, author of The Facebook Cookbook. "The Where's The Beach promotion is a natural fit for Facebook since people love to share their travel adventures with their friends. I look forward to guessing!"

There are eight trips up for grabs over a four month period. In addition to the information found on the Facebook page, contestants can get clues on the mystery beach locations by following the Target Vacations blog or @targetvacations on Twitter.

“We are extremely excited about this campaign because it truly integrates online discovery, which is increasingly becoming part of the complete Canadian holiday experience” says Sarracini, the man behind the “Where’s the Beach?” contest. “The feedback has been tremendous, which goes to show that Facebook isn’t just about messaging and snooping on your high school sweetheart - it’s a very powerful tool.”
