Austrians Rule IFSC World Cup Climbing Competition—Jacksons Own Bud Light Lime Kayak Freestyle, at Day Three of 2011 Teva Mountain Games

(VAIL, Colo.)—Chalk up a clean sweep for Austria as Anna Stohr and Killian Fischhuber climbed to the top step of the podium for the IFSC Climbing World Cup competition as the sun set on Day 3 of the 2011 Teva Mountain Games in Vail. Oh…and did anyone mention that they happen to be dating?

The 22-year-old Stohr, sitting third following the first round of climbing behind American Alex Puccio and France’s Melissa Le Neve, pulled out all the stops in the finals to earn the gold, while Puccio slipped to the runner-up position and Le Neve ended her day with the bronze.

Fischhuber, on the other hand, put in a solid finals performance, while those around him faltered, as first round leader Rei Sugimoto of Japan dropped to fourth in the final standings, while France’s Guillame Glarion Mondet, third after one round, fell to fifth in the final rankings.

Those mishaps led to a virtual reverse of the field as runner-up Dmitry Sharafutdinov of Russia climbed the ladder from fifth position, while the bronze medalist, Jonas Baumann of Germany moved up from sixth place after the first round. American Daniel Woods, last year’s Teva Mountain Games IFSC World Cup champion, failed to qualify for the finals.

On the water, it was a family affair as Emily Jackson ran away with yet another Bud Light Lime Kayak Freestyle championship, presented by First Ascent, while father Eric Jackson and brother Dane Jackson claimed silver and bronze in the men’s competition.

Emily, hailing from Walling, Tennessee, posted a score of 530 points to outdistance runner-up Ruth Ebens of Reno, Nevada by 230 points, while Haley Mills of Elizabethtown, New York earned the bronze, 270 points behind Jackson.

The only man standing in the way of a Jackson family sweep was Buena Vista, Colorado’s Dustin Urbin, who put up a score of 940 points, relegating Eric to the silver and Dane to the bronze. Only 10 points separated father and son, but they found themselves 130 points behind the winner.

In other Teva Mountain Games action from Day 3, Mariko Strickland from Honolulu, Hawaii captured the gold in the women’s Maui Jim SUP Surf Spring, presented by C4 Waterman, while Teva Mountain Games whitewater specialist Dan Gavere, took home the gold for the men. Also on Gore Creek, Nikki Kelly and Jeremy Rodgers were victorious in the Bud Light Lime Downriver Sprint competition.

The 2011 Teva Mountain Games will conclude Sunday, June 5, with competition highlighted by the Maui Jim SUP Surf Cross, presented by C4 Waterman; the Korbel California Champagne Road Bike Time Trial, presented by Thule; the Bud Light Lime 8 Ball Kayak and the Teva Raft Cross.

In addition to the wide variety of competitions, Gear Town and the Goal Zero Green Light District will also be open to the public, displaying the latest and greatest in outdoor gear and accessories.
