Spokane, Wash. (November 4, 2009) – Soybean-based Close to Naturenow™ litter won recognition as one of the best cat products of 2009 from Cat Fancy magazine, the authority for cat lovers for more than 40 years.

The cat litter was chosen from more than 80 products reviewed by the editors. The Organic Farm Store and the other 27 winners received certificates of achievement from Cat Fancy and recognition in the December issue of the magazine, which will appear on newsstands October 27.

“It was a great honor that we won this award from such a prestigious cat magazine,” said Scott DeWaide, president of The Organic Farm Store. “We know we have a great product for cats and are delighted to get the chance to have our information shared with lots of cat lovers around the country.”

Close to Naturenow™ Cat Litter, an innovative soybean-based, clumping cat litter, is the only litter on the market that contains soybean meal. This litter is produced from consumer-grade soybean from U.S. soybean-processing facilities. The soybean meal is carefully sorted and screened to achieve a consistent, cat-pleasing texture. The meal is then mixed with naturally granulated potato starch to enhance clumping.

What’s equally important is what this litter doesn’t contain, such as chemicals or clay powder – additives that even some natural cat litter companies use to produce a granule of uniform size. And no materials are wasted from the production of the litter. The leftover factions of soybean meal are used in other product lines, such as the company’s Dog Spot Eliminator and soil amendments, or are donated to local 4H groups for use as animal feed.

When comparing litter varieties, cat owners often question retailers about other factors once they’re assured a brand is natural and safe. “Can I use it for my kittens?” “What if I have multiple cats?” “How does it clump?” “Does it track?”

Close to Naturenow Cat Litter is produced with no added chemicals, making it biodegradable and completely flushable. In fact, the used litter after it’s sifted can be used as compost in ornamental flower gardens. It is safe for both cats and kittens, and extraordinarily effective for owners of multiple cats. The added potato starch provides
great clumping ability for easy scooping, while the soybean granules provide excellent
odor control. And while some litters get tracked throughout the house, Close to
Naturenow’s tracking is extremely low and there is minimal dust when you pour it into
the litterbox.

To support the profits of the independent pet channel, Close to Naturenow Cat Litter is sold exclusively to independent pet product retailers nationwide. It comes in 10-pound and 33-pound resealable bags and also in an 18-pound easy-to-open pail.
