The Genesee Brewery Adds 100 New Jobs

Brewery will host job fair on Saturday

Rochester, NY – The Genesee Brewery today announced its plans to add 100 new positions by May 2011. Record growth of Genesee Brewery brands like the Genesee family of beers, Seagram’s Escapes and Dundee Ales and Lagers, and a rise in contract brewing nationally, have led to the Brewery’s need to add to its workforce.

“People recognize the quality and value in our Genesee family of beers. That’s driving a lot of our growth,” said Kenn Yartz, chief operating officer for North American Breweries. “We have a very talented brewing staff and we’ve been introducing new products and growing our contract business, as well. Soon we’ll be operating seven days a week, around the clock.”

Employment numbers at the Genesee Brewery are on the rise:
• In March of 2009, the brewery employed approximately 300 people.
• A year after the formation of North American Breweries, in March 2010, the brewery added 50 new jobs and reinstated a third shift for the first time since 2002.
• Today, the Genesee Brewery employs 462 union and non-union workers.
• The 100 new jobs will bring the employment total in Rochester to 562.

The Genesee family of beers experienced double digit sales increases across the country in 2010. Nielsen data* shows that national sales of the Genesee family of beers are up 35% year-over-year.

Seagram’s Escapes also added four new flavors to its nationally distributed line-up: Sangria, Mango, Pink Punch and Lime Melonade. While Dundee Ales and Lagers introduced five new craft brews including: Kolsch-Style Ale, Stout, Summer Wheat, Irish Red Lager and Pilsner. “Sales growth, innovation and new market penetration means we have to make more beer,” said Yartz. “And we need more people to do that.”

The Genesee Brewery will host a job fair on Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 445 St. Paul Street location. Interested applicants should attend.

“Genny Light is the #1 popular-priced beer in Rochester** – and Genesee beer isn’t far behind. And now we’re seeing more people outside of Rochester – in places like Florida and out west - enjoying our products,” said Janine Schoos, brand manager for the Genesee family of beers and Dundee Ales and Lagers.

Genesee Brewery is Positioned For Growth
In 2009, the Genesee Brewery invested 10 million dollars into improvements and upgrades to modernize the brewery. Another six million dollars was invested into the brands and regional marketing efforts. In September 2010, the brewery installed a 24-ounce can production line. The $3.5 million piece of equipment produces 300 cans per minute and more than 30,000 cases per day. It provides opportunities for the Genesee Brewery to expand its product line-up in the convenience store channel and extend relationships with contract brewers. Also in 2010, the brewery earned AIB Certification, the highest industry designation for quality in manufacturing practices and food safety regulations nationally.

“We will continue to invest in our brewery and that’s good news for Rochester,” said Yartz. “The Genesee Brewery has such a rich history and we’re here to make sure the tradition lives on.”
