11.20.2009 – Rochester, NY – [November 19, 2009] The Genesee Brewery ended a month-long food drive today, donating 1000 pounds of non-perishable food items to Foodlink, a regional food bank.
During October, more than 400 brewery employees dropped cans of vegetables and beans, boxes of dry goods, cereals and other items into barrels placed throughout the brewery. North American Breweries’ CEO Rich Lozyniak and Brand Manager for Genesee and Dundee Ales and Lager, Jason Drewniak presented the donation to Foodlink Executive Director Tom Ferraro today.
“Annually, we provide over 5 million emergency meals to people throughout Central and Western New York,” said Ferraro. “Today’s donation from The Genesee Brewery will help us feed the unprecedented numbers of people who are in need of help. Plenty of local people are out of work or under-employed and need our help. We appreciate when people band together like this to successfully organize a food drive to help others.”
“We’re glad to help,” said Lozyniak. “Everyday our employees focus on brewing quality products, and this food drive enabled us to focus on the quality of life for our fellow neighbors in need. I’m proud of our employees for working together to make such an impactful donation.”
Today’s donation marks the first charitable initiative by The Genesee Brewery since North American Breweries’ took over the brewery in February of 2009. KPS, a private equity firm, acquired the brewery and formed North American Breweries as its parent company.
“We’re humbled by the great work done by Foodlink,” said Lozyniak, following today’s donation. “We’re thankful to them for giving us the opportunity to be a small part of their unbelievable efforts to help others.”
