10.30.2009 – Buffalo, NY – Local law enforcement officers were on-hand at more than 40 Applebee’s restaurants across New York state on October 28, but they weren’t enforcing laws or writing tickets. Instead, the officers served up food and fun to Applebee’s customers, working hard to earn ‘tips’. In total, Applebee’s restaurants raised more than $22,000, directly benefitting the more than 46,000 Special Olympics athletes in New York State.
“Fundraisers like Law & Orders at Applebee’s are critical to the success of our program,” said Renee Snyder, director of development for Special Olympics. “Because there is no cost to our Special Olympics athletes to participate, fundraising supports the cost for uniforms, competition, equipment and travel. We’re so grateful to Applebee’s and local law enforcement officers for helping to drive our program.”
The officers joined forces with Applebee’s employees and assisted by holding the doors open for and greeting guests, serving beverages, cleaning off tables, and delivering food to customers. In return, Applebee’s customers had the option to tip the officers to support local Special Olympics athletes.
“Law and Orders night at Applebee’s was great to be a part of, and we’re proud to support Special Olympics in New York State,” said Stephanie Griffin, director of marketing and public relations, T.L. Cannon Companies. “This annual event with Special Olympics and local law enforcement is an easy way we can all support these incredible athletes right in our own neighborhoods.”
The “Law and Orders” events are just one of the many ways that Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar supports and gives back to local communities. For more information on fundraising opportunities with Applebee’s, visit www.tlcneighborhood.com.
