Crowdsourcing the Logo for the Next Hottest Twitter Service

TweetPhoto is the next hottest photo sharing service for Twitter. The start-up company is crowdsourcing its logo design to attract the best graphic designers and to elicit feedback from the public.

04.05.2009 – LONDON, UK, April 6, 2009 / Press Release / -- TweetPhoto, a free photo sharing service for Twitter, today announced it is using CrowdSPRING to crowdsource its company logo design. Crowdsourcing has become the best way to bring customers into the creative process. Many companies are turning to crowdsourcing due to its successful ability to effectively elicit customer feedback and involvement. According to Rodney Rumford, Co-Founder of TweetPhoto, “There’s no better way to engage your customers than to have them design and vote upon your creative needs.”

The photo sharing company is seeking to find a talented graphic designer to create a logo before their public launch on April 27th. Unlike traditional design work, crowdsourcing enables multiple graphic artists to submit their work giving a company more choices and ideas around their creative brief. Once work is submitted, the general public, including customers, can view the designs and vote on what they believe is the best design. As described by Rumford, “Crowdsourcing is the wave of the future. It can bring companies ideas it never even fathomed at a cost far less than the traditional approach of hiring a single designer and at the same time users can give you feedback on what they do or do not like about the designs.”

Twitter effectively did the same thing with its bird design, purchasing it for $10 to $15, an iStockphoto spokeswoman told wired.com. Because iStockphoto pays creative designers 20 to 40 percent of revenue from content sold, the artist that designed the Twitter bird, Simon Oxley, made only $2 to $6. Graphic artists using CrowdSPRING can potentially earn a higher payout as they receive the full reward. In this case, TweetPhoto is offering to award the winning graphic designer $300. The new TweetPhoto logo will be featured on every web page of the company’s site which is a huge portfolio win for budding designers.

TweetPhoto is looking for Twitter users, who will effectively become their core customers, to provide feedback and vote for their favourite design. Twitter users can visit the TweetPhoto blog (www.tweetphoto.com/blog) for details about the logo contest. The closing date for graphic designers to submit their logo into the contest is April 14, 2009 at 12:03am GMT.

The company also launched a beta invitation website on March 18, 2009 to promote its launch, offering Twitter users 5,000 beta invitations. Twitter users have already expressed interest in the free service as more than 2,250 invites have been requested since the site was launched. Twitter users interested in being the first to use this free service can request their invitation at www.tweetphoto.com. The site launches at the end of April 2009.
