COLUMBUS, OH - The Universal Design Living Laboratory (UDLL), national demonstration home of the future, is halfway towards its completion. The home was the brainchild of project leader Rosemarie Rossetti Ph.D. after her involvement in an accident, paralyzing her lower body. Life in a wheelchair inspired her to build home based on the concept of universal design, which makes a facility’s level of livability beneficial to the widest possible range of people in the widest range of situations without special or separate design. The home will be able to accommodate people of all sizes, ages and abilities.
The following organizations have recently made donations to the UDLL:
• Marvin Windows and Doors has donated windows, which will be installed by APCO.
• Pittsburg Corning has donated glass block windows for the basement.
• Lennox has contributed and installed the home’s HVAC system.
• The Jess Howard Electric Company and Best Plumbing Services are completing their installations.
One of the home’s highlights, a glass block mural contributed by Pittsburg Corning, Cogir USA and Columbus Glass Block, was installed in the bathroom. “The home now has a WOW factor greater than I had anticipated,” states UDLL interior designer Anna Lyon.
