As a solo competitor in the 2011 Race Across America (RAAM), Strasser will hop on a bicycle and pedal across the length of the American continent, 3,000 miles from Pacific to Atlantic, stopping to sleep only when necessary. His strategy includes spending 21 hours per day cycling, taking a two-hour nap each night and stopping for medical checks. Most meals will be taken on the bike in the form of liquid nutrition supplements and he will rely on Verve® and THIRST™ to keep up with the incredible energy, nutrient and hydration demands of the race, which is expected to last 9 or 10 days.
Inspired by a television documentary about Race Across America and the Austrian rider, Wolfgang Fasching, Strasser started cycling at the age of 15. From that day, his dream was to race across America one day. Today, he has completed several ultra cycling events with many first and second place finishes — most recently winning his second title in the World Championships of ultra cycling and achieving a new world record of the fastest crossing of Austria. Strasser currently lives and trains in Graz, the second largest city in Austria.
“Humans are able to achieve great things if their body, mind and soul are working together at a very high level,” says Strasser. He goes on to say, “Mental strength is very important to successfully finishing an ultra cycling race like RAAM, but the base is a healthy body. Only staying healthy and well fed makes it possible to cycle 3,000 miles. So high-quality nutrition like Vemma is the key to performing at this level.” Strasser’s first goal is to reach the finish line (only 50% of the racers do). His second goal is to finish in the top three. “This ambitious goal gives me great motivation,” Strasser says.

About the Race Across America (RAAM)
The Race Across America, known as the “world’s toughest bicycle race,” will set over 250 competitors on a 3,000-mile route stretching from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland. Athletes race continuously day and night, on their own power or sharing the challenge with a team, and a crew of 8-15 people following in support vehicles with food and supplies for the race. These courageous adventurers brave heat, wind, thunderstorms, altitude, the dark of night, fatigue and sleep deprivation, cross several major mountain ranges and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.
