(SAVANNAH, GA/OSLO, NORWAY) The Savannah Ocean Exchange proudly announces Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics as a worldwide sponsor of the Savannah Ocean Exchange. Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) is partnering with Savannah Ocean Exchange to extend the reach of their Orcelle Grants, facilitating the leap of ideas and innovations across industries.
The WWL Orcelle Grants support clean tech entrepreneurs aimed at making shipping and logistics more sustainable. This focus reflects WWL's own research and development into the E/S Orcelle, a zero-emissions concept vessel. The vision & mission is to support innovative ideas for zero-emissions marine transport and to develop the energy-efficient technologies which hold the promise of future commercial viability.
“The Savannah Ocean Exchange "Leap for Zero+" theme is a perfect fit with the global zero emission ambition we have for our operations. Together with the SOE, we can progress further and faster in promoting and developing environmentally and economically sustainable solutions for shipping,” stated WWL’s President & CEO, Arild B. Iversen.
For the 2012 WWL Orcelle Grant, an international “Call for Solutions” will be issued in the 1st quarter of 2012 seeking proactive, innovative, scalable and economically productive solutions that accelerate the timeline of reaching ZERO+.
Zero + is the innovative practice of creating gains (+), roads to prosperity and full productivity, while reducing (ZERO) the use of non--renewable natural resources, waste and the time required to transform waste/by-products into reusable resources. In 2011, the Savannah Ocean Exchange’s competition generated applications from North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. The competition culminated in the selection of Liquid Robotics’ Wave-Glider as the winner of the 2011 Gulfstream Navigator Award.
“We are thrilled Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics has become a Worldwide Sponsor of the Savannah Ocean Exchange and is partnering with us to source economically sustainable solutions to compete for the WWL Orcelle Award 2012,” says Cort Atkinson, Co-Founder and CEO of the Savannah Ocean Exchange. “Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics is a leader in maritime and shipping innovation through their development of the E/S Orcelle and Castor Green Terminal. The Orcelle Award is another example of their long-standing commitment to economic sustainability and environmental leadership.”
Savannah Ocean Exchange brings together thought leaders around the world from cross disciplines that represent industry, education, research, technology, government and conservation. While most of the Governors hail from the USA, other countries represented include Ireland, Switzerland, Australia, England, Canada and American Samoa.
