Whistler Blackcomb is pleased to announce the popular Fire and Ice show will return this season taking place on Sunday nights from December 18, 2011 through April 8, 2012. Arguably the No. 1 free family activity in Whistler, the Fire and Ice show provides great animation and entertainment for all guests of Whistler. Improvements this winter include a new sound system and improved lighting, adding to last year’s staging improvements which offers better visibility of the action.

“The Fire and Ice Show is a great community event and Whistler Blackcomb would like to thank a broad group of resort stakeholders who help make the show happen,” says Rob McSkimming, Whistler Blackcomb’s vice president of business development. “On behalf of Whistler Blackcomb I would like to recognize and thank: TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, Pan Pacific, The Westin, Nita Lake Lodge, Crystal Lodge, Fairmont Chateaux Whistler, Hilton, Lodging Ovations, Zog’s, Black’s and Sushi Village.”

The Fire and Ice show takes place in Skier’s Plaza at the base of Whistler Mountain every Sunday evening from December 18 through April 17. The one exception is the Sunday, December 25 show which has been moved to Monday, December 26 so more people are able to enjoy the show. Kicking off at 6:30pm each Sunday, the Fire and Ice show features fire spinners and Whistler Blackcomb Snow School instructors hitting a big air jump through a ring of fire. The sensory spectacle is capped off with fireworks.

The Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC) hosts “Afterburn,” the official after party of the Fire and Ice Show, presented by the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival. With prize giveaways, including a chance to win a Whistler Blackcomb Heli Ski trip and the legendary Hairfarmer’s playing, it’s the Sunday night party not to miss.
