Wind River Country, WY - For many people, fishing is a way of life. There’s something about wandering along a mountain stream, searching for quiet eddies or undercut banks where the trout lie waiting or drifting across a lake, rod out, hat pulled down over your eyes, that gets into your soul and never leaves.
In the Fall issue of Trout Unlimited magazine, Cory Toye writes about fishing in Wind River Country. "Fishing throughout the basin and the mountains provides a visual experience matched by few places." "The rivers are home to wild and native trout that thrive in habitat that can range from high elevation alpine streams and lakes to a volatile and turbid river that cuts through the badlands of northwest Wyoming...The (Wind) River's basin includes the 2.2 million acre Wind River Indian Reservation and anglers must obtain a tribal permit to fish these waters. Wading and floating opportunities are available for anglers visiting the area."

So if you’re passing through, there’s no excuse not to stop for a cast or two. Who knows, before you know it the sun may have set and you’re still wading and casting.
Wind River Country’s other claim to fame is its wilderness rivers and lakes where you can enjoy the solitude of the back country with some exceptional fishing.
