Dubois, WY - Get a jump start on Christmas this year at the annual Christmas concert sponsored by the Dubois Museum and Dubois Branch Library in the Dennison Lodge on Saturday, December 3 at 7 p.m. The free concert features Mike Hurwitz playing a selection of holiday and cowboy favorites.
Michael Hurwitz is a Wyoming based singer- songwriter with a style that falls somewhere between the delta blues and western cowboy swing. With high plains ranching roots going back four generations, his long days in the saddle, haying, branding calves and fixing fence taught him the value of hard work, good horses and friends, and a love for the land and its history.
Initially Mike was influenced by the country and cowboy music he heard growing up in rural Wyoming. His mother turned him on to the Southern country blues and jazz from her Mississippi home. NPR music critic Meredith Ochs describes Mike as “…(a) dusky baritone (that) resonates with the sounds of mountains he's pondered, horses he's wrangled, and the land he's traveled . He's the real deal."
The historic Dennison Lodge in the Dubois Museum complex is handicapped accessible. Free desserts and refreshments will be provided by the Dubois Friends of the Library. The Christmas concert is partially funded through a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Arrive for the concert early, and take advantage of the annual pre-holiday sale at the Dubois Museum gift store. The museum will be hosting an open house 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 3. Partake of the refreshments as you enjoy 20% off nearly everything in the Gift Shop, and 25-50% off select items. Visitors can also register for one of many door prizes. Free gift wrapping is available for any purchases made during the open house.
