The commission continues 13 celsius' support of the local art community and up-and-coming artists. This year will be the third installment in the series. Last year, Houston artist Jonathan Leach painted the temporary mural titled “Unzipped” across the bar walls, and the year prior, Houston artist Ariane Roesch delineated the space with red and green light wires in her “Hot and Grounded” signature installation.
“Rather than hang traditional holiday decorations, we like to stay true to 13’s mission and offer something unique. We commission original works of art to make the holidays more memorable,” said 13 celsius co-owner Ian Rosenberg.
Porter’s glass painting continues the artist’s interest in weather and its temporality. Her most recent works on canvas concentrate on weather patterns specific to Houston, a city known for its dynamic and quick shifts in weather forecasts. Her abstract works on both paper and canvas mirror the repetition, pattern and simple forms found in nature.
Ebony Porter lives and works in Houston, Texas. She was born in Australia in 1980. She received a B.A. in English and a B.A. in art history from Texas State University in San Marcos. She is a published art writer and has exhibited her work throughout Texas including a solo exhibition at Art Palace Gallery.
