INTEXURE ARCHITECTS AND WADE WILSON ART PRESENT "THE ART OF DECONSTRUCTION"

Benefiting Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County and Historic Houston

In an effort to showcase the deconstruction process and the possibilities that can result from recycling a house versus disposing of it into a landfill, Intexure Architects has teamed up with Wade Wilson Art to host “The Art of Deconstruction,” a special fundraiser benefiting Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County (NWHC) and Historic Houston.

Unlike demolition, deconstruction is the systematic hand dis-assembly of a structure in the reverse order of construction in a manner that maximizes the preservation of building material for reuse and recycle purposes. Habitat for Humanity NWHC deconstruction offers a wonderful opportunity to help families in need of respectable housing while also protecting our local environment.

The Art of Deconstruction event will be held at the studios of Intexure Architects, 1815 Southmore Boulevard in Houston on Thursday, October 21, 2010, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A $10 minimum donation is suggested per person and donations will be collected at the door (cash, credit cards and checks accepted). Guests donating $100 or more will receive access to a seated VIP area that includes a private bar with beer, wine, soft drinks, water and hors d’oeuvres. For those who cannot attend but wish to make a donation, checks may be mailed to: Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County, P.O. Box 682785, Houston, Texas 77268 or Historic Houston, P.O. Box 130463, Houston, Texas 77219.

Coordinated by Wade Wilson Art, the event will feature an exhibit of photographs by Houston Chronicle writer Elizabeth Rubino and artwork by local artist Joseph Cohen using reclaimed materials from the deconstructed home. Wade Wilson Art will conduct a live auction during the evening, with all proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity NWHC and Historic Houston. Event-goers will also enjoy complimentary beer, water, light bites, cool vibes and the soothing sounds of Soular Grooves, with DJ services donated by Josh Zulu and Derek Jones.

Intexure Architects and Wade Wilson Art would like to recognize and thank the generous co-sponsors of the event: Green Loop Living, Greenwood Bay, Anheuser-Busch Silver Eagle Distributing, Soular Grooves, Vitaminwater Zero and Zulu Creative. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available. For information, please contact Shannon Kimbrough at Historic Houston at shannon@historichouston.org or 713-522-0542.

About Intexure Architects
Intexure Architects is a Houston architecture firm focusing on contemporary design and sustainability for both residential and commercial projects. By creating spaces that enrich the lives of those they serve, Intexure’s work is defined by principles rather than style. For the past five years, they have been building a community-focused development in the Museum District and employing green building techniques. For urban neighborhoods, Intexure’s philosophy of the 3Rs is to renovate, reuse and recycle. This means that a home or structure should be renovated and repurposed, if possible. If the entire structure cannot be saved, all possible materials should be salvaged for new use through the deconstruction process. Intexure believes the extra cost adds value to the community and is simply the right thing to do.
