MORTAR Becomes First Retailer in Texas to Carry Garrett Leight California Optical Sunglasses, Announces Launch Party

Houston-based men's clothing boutique MORTAR has added the new vintage-inspired sunglass line of Garrett Leight California Optical to its customer offering, becoming the first retailer in Texas to carry the emerging designer's impeccably crafted eyewear. MORTAR will celebrate the debut of the collection by curating a special launch party for customers and fashion connoisseurs on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. in the store's "BACKSPACE," a community-oriented free space dedicated to showcasing and fostering creativity through an ongoing series of events. Garrett Leight, son of Oliver Peoples founder Larry Leight, will be in attendance.

"It's my pleasure to introduce the remarkable style, quality and value of Garrett Leight California Optical to our customers and friends," said MORTAR owner Sacha Nelson Chapel. "I'm thrilled to welcome Mr. Leight and celebrate this launch with a leisurely yet off-the-grid MORTAR experience."

With audio ambiance by Soular Grooves' DJ Melodic, friends of MORTAR can try on pieces from the new collection and kick back with Mr. Leight. A special menu of gourmet Asian fusion tacos from Fusion Taco will be served, along with Sweet Tea Vodka, courtesy of Deep Eddy. Committed to giving back to the community, MORTAR will donate 10 percent of all sales from the event to Workshop Houston, a local nonprofit organization in the city's Third Ward with a mission to provide youth with creative, technical and educational resources.

About MORTAR
As Houston's only men's "curated" clothing boutique, MORTAR showcases emerging menswear designers, distinct-minded ateliers and artisans from around the world. The retailer provides a collaborative space stocked with independent labels, adding personal service that emphasizes the importance of fabric, construction, and fit. MORTAR maintains a comfortable vibe with a stylistically open ended point of view, giving customers the means to create or adhere to their own style. Further enhancing the store's unique concept is its agenda to provide men much-needed additional services often overlooked by more female-oriented retailers. MORTAR aims to give customers the base knowledge and skill-set to craft looks and maximize the relevance and utility of each piece it sells.
